Microsoft has released a new update for Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, though this time it’s not a cumulative update and it doesn’t bring any critical security fixes.

Windows 10 update KB4058043 is a reliability update for the Microsoft Store (previously known as Windows Store), and given that it showed up on December 16, four days after this month’s Patch Tuesday cycle, many users were reluctant to install it on their systems.

A knowledge base article published by Microsoft, however, reveals that this update is specifically aimed at computers running the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update x64 version, bringing updates for the Microsoft Store and fixing some issues that were previously experienced with apps.

“This update makes reliability improvements to Microsoft Store and fixes an issue that could cause app update failures and cause Microsoft Store to generate unnecessary network requests,” the official description of the update reads.

Only available on Windows Update

Surprisingly, however, KB4058043 is only shipped via Windows Update and is not available on the Microsoft Update Catalog for users who’d want to install it manually. On the good side, it does not require a system reboot when completing the install.

Updates like this indeed come totally out of the blue, but they’re certainly helpful, especially because the experience with the Microsoft Store has been far from flawless.

Systems where Windows Update is configured to automatically install updates might have already deployed KB4058043 and no further checks are needed. If you want to make sure that this update is installed on your computer as well, head over to the Settings app > Update & security > Windows Update > View installed update history and look for KB4058043.

If it’s not, then you can manually check for updates in the Windows Update screen, though keep in mind that only x64 systems that are running the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update are getting it.
