The Mail app now comes with better notifications

Microsoft has silently released a new feature for Windows 10 users that makes it possible to control incoming notifications for the Mail client a little bit more easily without having to open the app every time.

Specifically, interactive notifications allow users to delete new emails or set flags without the need for firing up the email client and clicking on the new message, as the whole thing can be performed thanks to the options that are included in the notification message itself.

This is a feature that has been around for a while in other apps and operating systems, and Microsoft recently rolled it out for fast ring insiders. It turns out that feedback was mostly positive, so this feature is now available for all Windows 10 users who stick with the default Mail app.

The quick actions are displayed in the toast notifications showing up on PC and mobile, but at the same time, they’re also available in the Action Center, should you miss the notification.

Fully customizable

The default options that are provided right now are set flag and delete, but you can further customize them from the “Quick Actions” screen in Settings, where you can also configure Mark as read and Archive.

Without a doubt, this makes the Mail app a little bit more useful, especially because Microsoft is working hard on making it a fully-featured email client that can compete with the likes of Mozilla Thunderbird, which is still dominating the desktop on the majority of PCs.

Truth be told, the Mail app has evolved a lot since the first version was included in preview builds of Windows 10 and Microsoft is actively working on improving it even more for the upcoming Creators Update due in early 2017. There still are a few things here and there that need to be improved, but we’re getting there and updates like the one from today contribute to a better experience with the app.
