14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft has officially kicked off the Windows Server Insider Program with build 16237, thus providing customers with an early look at what’s to come in the next release of the operating system.
As it’s the case of the original Windows Insider program, the purpose here is to allow users to test upcoming features ahead of the public launch, while at the same time providing feedback and suggestions on how to improve certain functionality.
Windows Server build 16237 comes with improvements that aren’t necessarily appealing to consumers, but which are certainly more interesting for IT pros. For example, there are improvements to Container Networking, while Persistent Memory can now be exposed to Hyper-V VMs.
“In this build, NTFS-formatted direct access volumes that are created on non-volatile DIMMs can now be exposed Hyper-V VMs. This enables Hyper-V VMs to leverage the low-latency performance benefits of Persistent Memory devices,” Microsoft explains.
Huge changelog, but plenty of known issues
The changelog is pretty big for the first release, and you can read it in full in the box after the jump and make sure you send feedback to the company should you decide to give it a try. Feedback can be submitted with the Feedback Hub too, but you need to select the Server category.
What’s important to know is that you need to download Windows Server builds manually, and you can point your browser to this link for the latest images. Microsoft has also provided two different keys for unlimited activations of Windows Server, but it’s worth knowing that these can only be used in preview builds and not on production machines:
