14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft is expected to overhaul its mobile efforts at some point in the future, but for the time being, the company keeps rolling out rather boring builds to phones that are enrolled in the Windows Insider program.
Windows 10 Mobile build 15222, for example, was pushed today to the Fast ring with absolutely no new features, though it includes more fixes as compared to the previous builds.
According to the official release notes, which you can check out in the box after the jump, build 15222 includes all the improvements brought by cumulative updates KB4016871 and KB4020102, while also fixing the copyright date issue that existed in older releases. This means that the copyright date now shows 2017 under Settings > System > About, and not 2016 as it was the case before.
There are also fixes for WhatsApp, which failed to launch in some recent builds, as well as improvements for notification reliability when Bluetooth devices are connected.
Major new build expected soon
Microsoft says that it also spent a particular amount of time improving the Time & Language settings page for Speech and Keyboard language downloads.
"Previously, the status would show 'Downloading' for speech and 'Installing' for keyboard. Unless, the user tapped on the language or navigated to the Update & Security settings page, there was no indication that a restart is required to complete the installation. Now when the update reaches the reboot pending state, a 'Restart Required' is displayed under the language," the company says.
As far as the major overhaul that everyone seems to be expecting these days, Microsoft hasn’t said a single thing about it, though it's believed that the company is already working on it behind closed doors. A build that was accidentally published online last week included a bunch of major changes for phones, including Continuum refinements that were originally expected in Windows 10 Mobile Creators Update.
Without a doubt, as soon as all these new features become more stable and work smoothly internally, the company would also push them to insiders, so it's all just a matter of time until this happens.
