Microsoft rolled out today Windows 10 build 16184 for insiders in the Fast ring, and one of the highlights is the debut of the My People feature that was originally supposed to launch in the Creators Update.

Held back until the debut of Redstone 3, My People is now available for testers, bringing the favorite contacts on the taskbar for quick chats or file sharing.

“Technology is all about making it easier for you to connect with your most important people. Whether you want to share a photo, make plans for dinner, or get an answer from a friend or coworker – My People is here to take it to the next level and bring the people you care about most to the center of your experience,” Microsoft says.

My People allows users to pin people to the taskbar, and the feature also suggests contacts when setting it up for the first time. At this point, only 3 people can be pinned to the taskbar, but this limit could be increased as work on this continues.

Furthermore, users can view multiple communication apps together and filtered to each person on the taskbar, so clicking a specific contact icon always opens the communications app that can be used to get in touch with that specific person.

More features on their way

And last but not least, users can choose the app they want to use for chat and then have My People remember it for next time.

In order to start using My People, you first need to update Skype, Mail, and People apps. Once the latest versions of these apps are installed, click the People icon in the taskbar and run the configuration process to use it.

“Contact syncing is enabled by default following system settings in versions 11.13+ of Skype. If you have an older version of Skype you will need to manually enable contact syncing via the Skype app settings,” Microsoft says.

More features are already being developed, and Microsoft says that sharing options should debut soon, obviously in the next preview builds of Redstone 3.
