The company confirmed installation bugs on Lumia 950

Microsoft has decided to pull the recently-released Windows 10 Mobile build 10586.29 after it discovered that a number of Lumia 950 and 950 XL devices are experiencing issues when trying to install it.

Rolled out last week for the company’s new Lumia phones even if not registered to the Windows Insider program, this particular build was seen as the first step towards the eagerly anticipated release synchronization between mobile and PCs, with Microsoft suggesting that future builds would follow the same path and come with the same version number and possibly at the same time on all devices.

Bugs finally acknowledged

But on a number of new Lumias it was impossible to install, and Microsoft employee Mike Mongeau confirmed on the company’s Community forums that pulling the update completely was the best choice until all problems were fixed.

“We are aware of issues related to the recently published Windows 10 Mobile update, including: update not being offered, update appearing to get stuck at 0%, and pesky low storage notifications,” he said in a statement.

“The team is working on fixes and improvements to the upgrade experience in the short term and with future releases. In the meantime, we have unpublished the 10586.29 update for Windows 10 Mobile from our public update servers while we work through these reports.”

Our Lumia 950 XL test unit was one of those devices that didn’t get the update, but after a hard reset, the new build showed up in the phone update section and installation completed successfully with no bugs or issues. Microsoft, however, claims that some might come across a number of bugs, including a low storage notification which can be safely ignored.

At the same time, some Lumia 950 and 950 XL users are still seeing pending updates for OS or apps and Microsoft says that they should plug their phones into a charger and let it do the work as it could take some time.

Thanks for the tip, Jeremy!
