The release is very likely to take place today

The development of Windows 10 Anniversary Update continues, and after Microsoft rolled out a new mobile build a few hours ago, the company is getting ready to do the same for PC insiders as well.

Gabriel Aul, the head of the Windows Insider program, has said in a tweet that the Windows team has managed to fix the critical bug that pushed back the release of a new build earlier this week, so it’s now trying to determine whether the new one containing the patch could be shipped today or tomorrow.

But given the fact that the company doesn’t usually roll out new builds on Friday, unless there’s something that cannot be delayed, the new version is very likely to land today.

“We have a new candidate that has the PCI bug fixed, but it will not be ready to promote today. Still evaluating it,” Gabe said in a follow-up tweet after previously revealing that the team is still hoping to roll out a new build later this week.

Preview builds of Anniversary Update

All these preview builds help Microsoft try out the Anniversary Update before the public launch in the summer, as the company is trying to collect feedback from insiders and make sure that everything works as expected before retail users get the updates too.

As usual, the next build is supposed to bring some improvements too, but the focus will be on bug fixes, as was the case of the Mobile build that was shipped to insiders this week. Only fast ring users will get it at first, and depending on the received feedback, the company could release it for those enrolled in the slow ring as well at some point in the future.

The Anniversary Update, also known as Redstone by Windows Insiders, is projected to launch in July, the same month when Microsoft pulls the plug on the free upgrade offer for Windows 10.
