14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft has rolled out Windows 10 build 14905, and although this new version doesn’t seem to bring too many changes at first glance, it actually marks the beginning of the development of Windows 10 Mobile Redstone 2 due in the spring of 2017.
Windows 10 Mobile Anniversary Update was released earlier this week, so Microsoft can now proceed with the next step, which is the Redstone 2 update coming next year and supposed to bring many more improvements to mobile devices.
Microsoft itself confirmed that this year the focus is on PCs, but next year, there are more “cool things” prepared for mobile phone, and this is why Redstone 2 is such an important update.
What’s new in build 14905?
First and foremost, build 14905 comes with the typical improvements and fixes (and you can read the full changelog in the box at the end of the article), but there’s one important change for mobile devices: new sounds available for insiders.
Microsoft says that it’s trying to “set a new bar for mobile sound set quality,” and this build is just the first step towards this goal, although we do know that this is going to be a very bumpy road for the company, given the fact that the community is usually very picky with things like sounds and icons.
“We are introducing a newly refined sound set in this build, uniting the best of our past and present. We aspire to set a new bar for mobile sound set quality, and are trying to make the soundscape of technology more beautiful and harmonious. This also helps align with new sound design direction of the Windows platform as a whole, so that mobile sounds will family with desktop and tablet and be feel instantly familiar to all Windows users,” Dona Sarkar, head of the Windows Insider program, said.
More new features are expected to land in the coming builds, but for the moment, you can try the new sounds yourselves in Settings > Personalization > Sounds.
