Xbox Fitness content is no longer available for purchase

Microsoft has just announced that it is discontinuing Xbox Fitness, a service that allowed users to work out with help from trainers around the world without even leaving their living room.

Xbox Fitness has received several important updates since its debut on the Xbox One, but Microsoft is now discontinuing it, with new content no longer available for purchase since June 27. Users who have already purchased content on Xbox Fitness can still access it until June 30, 2017.

Furthermore, the Free with Gold offer will be removed on December 15, 2016, with Microsoft explaining that, until this date, all Gold members will still be allowed to access the workouts available for streaming as part of the service.

And last but not least, all Xbox Fitness content will be removed on July 1, 2017, as the final step in discontinuing the app.

“At that time, Xbox Fitness will no longer be available for download from Xbox Marketplace and content will not be available for play from the Xbox Marketplace nor within the game. Xbox Fitness users will no longer be able access Xbox Fitness and the associated workouts/programs,” Microsoft states.

Users want Xbox Fitness alive

While Microsoft hasn’t provided a clear reason for giving up on this app, it’s believed that the number of users has dropped significantly and forced the company to turn to this decision. And yet, the Xbox Fitness community is still large enough to make sense for Microsoft to keep the app alive, and there still are people out there who buy Xbox One consoles just for using Xbox Fitness.

“While our team is saddened by this news, we couldn’t be more proud of what we’ve accomplished in the past two and a half years. We know that many of you have used Xbox Fitness to begin your fitness journey, to supplement it, or as a way to redefine your own fitness story. We’re glad we could be a part of the journey,” Microsoft says in an announcement.

Users have already started complaining about the removal of the Xbox Fitness app, and given the fact that Microsoft is more open to communication these days, it remains to be seen if this feedback can make the company change its mind or not.
