PCMover Express is free for one year, Redmond announced

When you perform the upgrade from Windows 7 or 8.1 to a Windows 10, all your files are automatically transferred to your new operating system, so you don't lose anything. All data, including settings and apps, is preserved, which means that you can start working in Windows 10 immediately.

But in case you've just bought a new Windows 10 computer and want to move files from a separate PC running Windows 7 or 8.1, that's not as easy as you'd be tempted to believe. And that's why today Microsoft has signed a partnership with Laplink to offer their file transfer solution called PCMover Express free of charge for one year.

In other words, PCMover Express can now be downloaded by Windows 7 and 8.1 users without paying a single cent, but it's worth knowing that this is a limited-time offer and it will expire on August 31, 2016, one month after the free upgrade offer for Windows 10 comes to an end.

Apps need to be reinstalled

What's very important to note is that this application cannot transfer apps, so it only takes care of your personal files. Apps installed on your Windows 7 or 8.1 PC need to be manually re-installed on your new computer.

This isn't the first time when Laplink is working with Microsoft to offer a free file transfer solution, as the two companies previously joined forces with the same purpose when Windows XP support came to an end, again with the goal of offering users a quick way to jump from one OS version to another.

"We're fully committed to this relationship with Microsoft in support of all Windows users," said Thomas Koll, Laplink's CEO. "Our latest version of PCmover makes it easier than ever for customers running Windows XP, all the way to the latest release of Windows 10, to migrate their personal files, folders, and other settings to their new PC."

Obviously, the app is also available on Softpedia, so you can download PCMover Express right now if you want to start the file transfer process without waiting a single more minute.
