Microsoft’s still working to make the Windows 10 Mobile upgrade available to owners of Windows Phone devices, but the company’s already talking about what it calls the “fall 2015 update” that’s going to bring significant improvements to the platform.

While it’s not clear if the release of this fall update coincides with the launch of Windows 10 Mobile for Windows Phone devices (W10M is already available, but only for members of the Windows Insider program and buyers of Lumia 950, 950 XL, and 550, all of which come with the new OS pre-installed). However, the clock is certainly ticking because there are only 20 days left from this year.

As spotted by NPU, this fall update will bring significant improvements to the Photos app, which is still not offering the same functionality as its desktop sibling (although it should, given Microsoft’s efforts to bring together its platforms).

“On Windows 10 Mobile, the photo album experience is viewable at launch if created on Windows 10 PC. Full functionality on Windows 10 Mobile, with instant photo album and auto-enhance, scheduled for Fall 2015 update,” Microsoft says in the documentation for the Photos app.

The Windows 10 Mobile rollout

According to Microsoft itself, the Windows 10 Mobile rollout is projected to begin for Windows Phone devices this month, but up until now, the company has provided absolutely no timing information to let us know when exactly to expect this to happen.

There were sources, however, suggesting that the release could take place in stages, but this could no longer be valid, given the fact that Microsoft has found a way to push updates to Windows smartphones without the need for carrier approval.

As you can see, there are plenty of uncertain things right now, but Microsoft is very likely to set things straight very soon as we’re getting closer to the release of Windows 10 Mobile.
