A new build, however, is expected this week

Microsoft won’t release a new Windows 10 Creators Update build today, as the Windows team keeps analyzing feedback that it received following the bug bash.

Dona Sarkar, head of the Windows Insider program, has said in a tweet that “we won’t be releasing a build on February 20. We will be looking at the SH data from bug bash, bug fixes and choosing a build.”

This means that although no new build would land on Monday, a release is still on the table for this week, so expect more information to surface soon. Given that the Windows team hasn’t yet picked a build for the release, this could take more time, so don’t put all your hopes on Tuesday just yet.

Full focus on bug fixes

Although new builds are now being released at a slower cadence than before, Microsoft is not working on any new feature, but only on fixing bugs and improving performance of the update before it is released to everyone in April.

Microsoft has already confirmed that the Windows 10 Creators Update (internally codenamed Redstone 2) is feature-locked, which means that no new features are being added and all efforts are now aimed at refining performance before the public launch.

Furthermore, Windows 10 Creators Update preview builds have already been moved to the rs2_release branch, bringing the OS update closer to the public launch.

Given the fact that Microsoft recently started a bug bash and tons of data was submitted to the company by participating insiders, the Windows team obviously needs more time to process all these reports and implement fixes for the issues users came across. This is why it takes so much time for the new build to land, but hopefully, the company would speed up the release cadence in the remaining weeks until the launch.

According to people close to the matter, the final bits should be compiled in late March and shipped to insiders before the public debut in April. Shortly after that, Microsoft is expected to start working on the Redstone 3 update due in the fall.
