Apple and Microsoft seem to be fighting over tech industry's attention on September 7

UPDATE: Larry Hryb says these mysterious tweets have nothing to do with Microsoft news coming on September 7, and he explains that it'll be a busy day just because Apple and Sony have press conferences at the same time. That's too bad, it'd be interesting to see Microsoft trying to steal Apple's thunder on such an important day. See the last tweet for more info. Original story below.

Apple has started sending out invites for a September 7 press conference that will bring us the eagerly anticipated iPhone 7 (or whatever it’ll be called), and obviously, most tech journalists are marking this day in their calendars to make sure they’re among the first to find out what Cupertino brings new to the market.

But it looks like Microsoft wants to be part of the September 7 celebration too, as several company executives have teased some exciting news coming that day.

The first to do it was Frank Shaw, Microsoft’s Corporate Vice President, Communications, who, after hearing about Apple’s September 7 event, tweeted a message reading “Circling 9/7 early a.m. on my calendar. Really early a.m.”

Then, it was Larry Hryb, also known as Major Nelson, who is one of the key persons within the Xbox unit, who also tweeted that “sounds like September 7 may be a busy news day,” once again without disclosing any other specifics.

Maybe they are glad they’re getting new iPhones?

It’s not hard to speculate on what exactly these Microsoft executives are talking about, and just like WinBeta notes, they might be excited they’re getting new iPhones - although we doubt this is the case, even though many Microsofties are known to use iPhones.

But on the other hand, Microsoft is expected to indeed share some news too on September 7, and the chances are that it’s related to Xbox, especially because Major Nelson joined this teasing frenzy.

On the other hand, this wouldn’t actually be the first time when Microsoft uses the date picked by its rivals for press conferences to share news on its products, and the most recent case is August 2, when the company introduced the Windows 10 Anniversary Update, and Samsung launched the Galaxy Note 7.

Nevertheless, the risk here is to get overshadowed by Apple’s press conference, a thing that can easily happen, given the fact that Cupertino is unveiling the new generation of its flagship product. Sony might have the same fate since it has already announced its own event on September 7, so this will definitely be a busy news day for tech reporters.
