The device was originally scheduled to launch in December

Microsoft took the wraps off the new Surface Pro series earlier this month when the company decided to give up on numbering generations for the product’s name, and at that time, it also announced that an LTE version would go live in the fourth quarter of this year.

More recently, the firm indicated that the Surface Pro with LTE would see daylight in early December, but according to information posted on the Microsoft Store page (via Neowin), it looks like the plan has quietly changed in the meantime.

The page reveals that the Surface Pro with LTE is now expected in early 2018, with no other specifics provided.

“When will LTE be available? The new Surface Pro with LTE will be made avaiable [sic] for purchase at retail Spring 2018. We're excited to bring you a Surface Pro that is now faster, lighter, quieter, and more connected than ever,” Microsoft explains in the FAQ section of the Surface Pro product page.

Just an error?

Judging from the typing error, this could be just inaccurate information posted on Microsoft’s page and the release of the Surface Pro with LTE could still be scheduled for December. Microsoft will certainly set things straight very soon, as the company has been contacted for more information already.

The Surface Pro with LTE support is obviously a device that brings a series of advantages, including on-the-go Internet connectivity in those areas where Wi-Fi is not available. LTE support would be offered on Surface Pro configurations with Intel Core i5 chips, with pricing to be announced when availability is confirmed.

The Surface Pro comes with a 12.3-inch PixelSense display, a choice of three different processors starting with Intel 7th-generation Core m3 and ending with i7, up to 16GB RAM and a maximum of 1TB storage for the top-of-the-range configuration.

Pricing starts at $799 for the m3 CPU version with 128GB storage and 4GB RAM and goes all the way up to $2,699 for the model equipped with an Intel Core i7 chip, 1TB SSD storage, and 16GB RAM.
