Redmond launches a massive makeover for Bing

Microsoft has just rolled out a major overhaul for the video search option of Bing that makes it a much more advanced alternative for the built-in engine offered by YouTube and which provides users with many more details before actually clicking the result.

First and foremost, Bing video search now displays bigger thumbnails, so it's easier to find the video you want just by looking at the provided picture. Since there are billions of videos already out there, finding the one you want to watch is more difficult than you might believe, especially when looking for something older, so this new feature clearly comes in handy.

At the same time, just near this bigger thumbnail you get more information that lets you decide whether this is the video to click, including duration and uploader. Music videos also get new details, such as artist, album, and view count.

Finding music is easy

And because music videos are among the most searched for online, whenever you write down the name of an artist, Bing now displays the top songs, letting you quickly listen to any of them with just a click.

“When you search for a song, we display an enlarged thumbnail image, or “hero”, for that song. The hero is chosen based on the top result and relevance to your search. The hero video will play in place or you can click through to the source of the video to watch it there,” Microsoft explains another new feature.

Searching for related videos is also easier because Microsoft has introduced a new slider that lets you browse similar clips and artists.

And last but not least, Bing's video search provides you with results from more than a single video search service, so in addition to YouTube you can also search other websites, such as DailyMotion.

Google's search engine works in a similar way on Google.com, but Bing's new feature clearly provides you with more options and information before actually clicking the result.
