Microsoft has already confirmed that it's working to bring new flagships to the market later this year, but the company has remained completely tight-lipped on specs and release date, so nobody can tell for sure what exactly the new models will look like when they hit the shelves.

A new leak coming from China, however, claims to provide us with the first look at the upcoming Lumia 950 XL, a high-end model that's often referred to as Microsoft's next Windows flagship phone.

Details are still missing, but as you can see in the photos published by Chinese site WPXAP, Lumia 950 XL is expected to ship with USB Type-C, which is clearly an important step forward for Microsoft in the mobile industry.

Launch expected in September or October

As far as technical specifications are concerned, the Lumia 950 is likely to come with a 5.2-inch screen, while the XL model is expected to feature a 5.7-inch display.

As you can see in the photos, Microsoft is using a protective case for these prototypes, most likely in an attempt to hide the actual design of the device, but it's very clear that Redmond has tried to reduce the bezel to the minimum in order to make the phone as light as possible.

A 20-megapixel PureView camera is likely to be offered on both models, and previous reports have indicated that Microsoft is also expected to offer a triple LED flash on the phablet model. The same version will also come with support for Microsoft's Surface Pen, which would significantly improve productivity on the go and open the door for more activities, including drawing and writing in a more natural way.

The launch is likely to take place in September or October together with Windows 10 Mobile, as the two devices will be Microsoft's pioneers for the new operating system. Full details on the launch event are expected to be released in the coming weeks.

Here's also a closer look at the 5.7-inch display of the Lumia 950 XL.
