The smartphone might be released in early 2016

Microsoft has already confirmed a launch event for October 6 where we believe the company will unveil its new flagship smartphones, Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL.

However, aside from that, Microsoft has some mid-range Windows Phone handsets in the pipeline as well, though they might not be launched at the same time as the flagships.

Word about Lumia 550 emerged a few months ago, so we kind of know most of the phone's specs. The smartphone leaked as Nokia RM-1127 and RM-1128, but it's internally known as “Saimaa.”

The Lumia 550 is meant to replace the Lumia 640, which was released earlier this year. Obviously, the smartphone will come with updated specs and a new operating system: Windows 10 Mobile.

Still, if Microsoft unveils the Lumia 550 on October 6, WindowsCentral reports the smartphone might not be available for purchase until early 2016.

It will be available in either black or white color options

If that's the case, then it wouldn't make sense for Microsoft to announce the Lumia 550 so early, so we might in fact see this one introduced at CES 2016 or MWC 2016 trade fairs.

Anyways, one of the small details that we've just learned about the Lumia 550 is the fact that it will come with a front-facing LED flash, WindowsCentral reports.

The rest of the phone's specs look pretty decent for an affordable handset, but keep in mind that they haven't been confirmed by Microsoft yet, so there might be changes by the time Lumia 550 goes official.

Microsoft Lumia 550 is said to sport a 4.7-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports HD (720p) resolution. The phone will be equipped with a 1.1GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 processor, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory.

Moreover, it will pack a 5-megapixel camera on the back and a much lower 1.2-megapixel camera in the front, which is said to feature LED flash.

4G LTE will be included as well, along with microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 128GB), Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and microUSB 2.0.
