Microsoft has just released an updated version of the Cortana personal assistant for Android, explaining that this new build is “a major evolution” of the software on this particular mobile platform.

According to the official release notes, this new version of Cortana comes with options to view top news and to-do items in the My day view, which should be particularly helpful for those who rely on the digital assistant to get all the information at a glance.

Furthermore, Microsoft has implemented smart suggestions, most likely similar to those that are available on Windows and which are displayed when searching for specific actions, as well as options to create a new list and edit list items.

Phone number support for registration

The company reveals that thanks to this update, it’s easier to sign in and sign up to start using Cortana because all you have to do is to provide your phone number and you are ready to go.

Additionally, you’re getting personalized help and tips, which should assist users as they try to make the most of the application – on the other hand, this could prove to be a double-edged sword, as tips often tend to become pretty annoying if they don’t bring anything new to users.

Cortana has received quite a lot of updates lately, but Microsoft still lists the digital assistant as “beta software,” which means that certain bugs and issues might still be experienced.

On the other hand, this new major update is living proof that Microsoft is very serious about conquering Android with Cortana, despite the fact that several other companies are offering their own assistants on the platform, including Google itself, which also owns the operating system.

Surprisingly, however, Cortana is quite a successful app on Android, having a rating of 4.2 out of a maximum of 5, with the current install base between 1 million and 5 million.
