Lumia 635 is “eligible for Windows 10” in Brazilian store

Nearly 50 percent of Windows Phone devices are left behind and not getting the upgrade to Windows 10 Mobile, but this doesn’t stop Microsoft from advertising some of them as eligible for the new operating system.

First, it was the BLU model which was listed as upgradeable to Windows 10 Mobile (with the store listing being silently updated after everyone started talking about it online), and now it’s the Lumia 635 that’s supposed to get the new operating system in Brazil (but it doesn’t).

Specifically, Microsoft sells the Lumia 635 in its Brazilian store as eligible for the Windows 10 Mobile upgrade, but the local market isn’t getting the 1 GB version. This means that whoever buys the Lumia 635 gets the model with 512 MB of RAM, hence no upgrade to Windows 10 Mobile.

At the time of writing this article, the “upgradeable to Windows 10 Mobile” ad is still there, but expect Microsoft to remove it anytime soon, as the company finds out about the mistake it’s made.

No 512 MB device getting the upgrade

Although the company originally promised that all Windows Phone devices would get the upgrade to Windows 10 Mobile, Microsoft decided to leave them out of the rollout because of the hardware limitations that would compromise the user experience.

“As Windows 10 delivers significant new innovations, many older devices are not able to successfully upgrade without an impact on the customer experience. Our goal is to only offer the Windows 10 upgrade to devices that we are confident can continue to deliver a good customer experience,” Microsoft said.

Without a doubt, the problem with Microsoft’s decision to leave some Windows Phone models behind isn’t necessarily the fact that the company decides this, because it’s very clear that nobody wants a phone that’s painfully slow, but that it made promises that it can no longer keep. This only causes more disappointment in the Windows Phone community, especially after the long wait for the release of Windows 10 Mobile.
