There have been many rumors regarding the upcoming release of Lumia 940 and Lumia 940 XL, but we still don't have a clear date for their unveiling.

According to NPU, sources familiar with Microsoft’s plans confirmed that the Redmond-based company would launch both Lumia 940 and Lumia 940 XL high-end smartphones sometime in October during a dedicated event that will take place in New York, USA.

Along with the unveiling of the Lumia 940 and Lumia 940 XL, Microsoft is expected to launch new accessories for “Continuum for phones,” a new treasure tag, but also some headsets, the new report claims.

However, the information hasn't been confirmed yet, so some of these accessories might not be announced along with the two smartphones.

Instead, Microsoft could introduce them slightly later throughout the year, or perhaps in early 2016.

It's also worth mentioning that both Lumia 940 and Lumia 940 XL should be available for purchase by the end of October, at least in some markets.

Prices will vary depending on country

Apart from the news regarding the upcoming release of Lumia 940 and Lumia 940 XL, the same report also sheds some light on the possible pricing options of the smartphones.

It appears that Microsoft will sell the Lumia 940 for around $600 outright, whereas the Lumia 940 XL will probably cost $650. These prices aren't too high for a flagship smartphone, so Microsoft expects them to sell pretty well in some markets.

If you're interested in these Windows 10 Mobile handsets, then you should know that the prices may vary by country. For example, in India, Lumia 940 XL will sell for no less than Rs 54,000 ($825 or €735), while Lumia 940 might be priced at Rs 48,000 ($730 or €655).
