Microsoft has put a lot of effort into the Windows Insider program and now that it’s a real hit, the company can look beyond it with similar initiatives that would involve the Windows fan community in the development of the world’s number one desktop operating system.

The Windows Scoop Fans program is the latest such effort that was launched in India for what Microsoft calls the biggest fans of Windows, inviting users to register and get exclusive updates on Windows, news on the latest apps and devices, tips and tricks, as well as invitations to special events.

“Windows Scoop Fans was designed for our most enthusiastic Windows fans and complements the Windows Insider Programme,” Microsoft explains in an email sent to users in India.

How to register

The software giant has also released a pretty easy way to register, as users only have to send an email to scoopfan[at]microsoft.com with a message that would describe their passion for Windows.

“Send us an email (from the same email you use for Facebook*) answering this one question - ‘Why I’m the biggest fan of Windows’. Tell us about a favourite feature, a Windows app you’ve created or how Windows helps you do great things. We’re open to a wide range of responses. And feel free to add photos, videos, etc,” Microsoft explains.

Users who want to be part of this new program need to send their emails before January 5, 2017, and Microsoft says that those who will be accepted will be contacted by January 15, 2017.

2017 will be quite an exciting year for Microsoft and its insiders, as the company will complete work on the Windows 10 Creators Update (most likely in late January), and then start development of the Redstone 3 update due in the fall.

Improvements for Windows 10 Mobile are also expected, and so is a new device that could be called Surface Phone and come with features helping the company invent a new product category.
