Microsoft has started selling the Surface Laptop with Windows 10 Pro, after the company originally launched the device with Windows 10 S last year.

Somewhat surprising is that the new version of the Surface Laptop can be purchased from the company’s commercial store, though as Neowin noted, everyone can get it.

Of course, Microsoft doesn’t position the Surface Laptop with Windows 10 Pro as a consumer device since it’s not available in the company’s public store, but everyone should obviously be just fine with the full operating system anyway.

The Surface Laptop with Windows 10 Pro is more expensive than the same device with Windows 10 S. The base version is $100 more expensive when running the full Windows 10, while the other configurations cost approximately $50 more than the Windows 10 S version.

Free upgrade to Windows 10 Pro

Customers, however, don’t need to pay the full price to have the Surface Laptop run Windows 10 Pro because Microsoft actually offers the upgrade free of charge if performed until March this year. In other words, you can purchase the Surface Laptop with Windows 10 S and do the upgrade free of charge, thus saving the extra money you’d otherwise have to pay for the full Windows 10 Pro.

Windows 10 S is an operating system restricted to the Windows Store, so installing Win32 software is not allowed. As a result, it’s not shocking that many customers choose to upgrade to Windows 10 Pro, and even Microsoft launched a version that runs the more capable flavor of the OS.

The Surface Laptop itself is one of the best laptops currently around, and although somewhat pricey as compared to its rivals, it offers excellent value for the money. The base configuration features an Intel Core i5 processor paired with 8GB RAM and 128GB SSD when running Windows 10 Pro.

It remains to be seen if Microsoft makes this version of the Surface Laptop available for consumers as well, but if anyone wants to purchase it, the company doesn’t seem to turn to any restriction whatsoever.
