Microsoft has just launched its first laptop, the so-called the Surface Book, which the company describes as “the ultimate laptop because it's the best on the planet.”

The laptop features a 13.5-inch PixelSense screen with 6 million pixels that excels in terms of contrast, colors, and density.

The typing experience on this product is perfect, Panos Panay said. The sound… Guys, it is so quiet. You type, and it's quiet, but it feels so quiet.

The keyboards have a 1.5 mm travel, with best-in-class key stroke, backlit keys, and a trackpad that's optimized by the Windows 10 engineers. “It feels so lovely,” Panos Panay said.

The device comes with advanced hardware which can provide the best performance. It's for games and graphic designers, for scientists who are trying to cure cancer, Panay said.

It has the latest generation of Intel processors, Skylake, and features and Nvidia GeForce GPU, high-speed GDDR5 memory and can provide 12 hours of battery life.

“This is the fastest 13-inch laptop ever made, anywhere on the planet.”

Performance

The Surface Book is two times faster than the MacBook Pro thank to its hardware, Panay explained. The new Surface dock can also be used with the Surface Book.

It features up to 1 TB of storage space, Intel's Skylake processors, up to 16 GB of RAM.

The Surface Book can also double as a tablet because it features a keyboard which can be removed, so it becomes pretty much a standard Surface tablet. It can also be used with a Surface Pen, so you can write, draw, and paint just like on a regular tablet.

The device is already up for pre-orders, with shipments to start on October 26. Pricing starts at $1,499.
