14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft has just announced Surface Go, a completely new 2-in-1 device that made the headlines on several occasions lately as the company’s “low-cost Surface.”
With a 10-inch screen, the Surface Go is the software giant’s smallest, lightest, and most affordable Surface model ever released. It is just 8.3 mm thin and tips the scales at 521 grams.
Surface Go comes with a PixelSense display with 3:2 aspect ratio and support for the Surface Pen, and like the other Surface models on the market, it can be connected to Type Covers in order to convert to a laptop form factor.
Power comes from the 7th Generation Intel Pentium Gold Processor 4415Y with a fanless design, and Microsoft says that it should offer up to 9 hours of battery life per charge.
The chip is paired with 4GB or 8GB RAM, depending on the configuration you choose. There are several storage options available, including 64GB eMMC and 128GB and 256GB SSD, while microSD card support can help add another 1TB of storage.
Windows 10 in S Mode
Microsoft’s new Surface features USB Type-C support and integrates a 5-megapixel front camera with Windows Hello for biometric authentication.
The device will go on sale on August 2, but it’s already available for pre-order starting at $399. The new Type Covers will cost an extra $99, while the special-edition Alcantara version will be priced at $129.
Surface Go is a device specifically aimed at the education market, and it runs Windows 10 in S Mode. This means the operating system is restricted to Microsoft Store apps and Win32 programs cannot be installed.
The device that’s currently up for grabs only features Wi-Fi connectivity, but Microsoft says that an LTE SKU would launch at a later time this year.

The countries where the device can be pre-ordered are US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Switzerland, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Poland, Italy, Portugal, and Spain.
Microsoft says that it’ll also launch the device in Japan, Singapore, Korea, Taiwan, Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong, and in China in a few weeks.
