Microsoft has just released the official OneDrive universal app for Windows 10, thus offering adopters of its new operating system a new way to access files stored in the cloud.

OneDrive sync is already available with the pre-installed Windows 10 client, but thanks to this universal app, everyone should be able to view, download, and upload files from and to the cloud quite easily.

The app comes with several very handy features, including tools to save and share files, open and save documents that can be edited with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote right in the cloud, find photos with automatic tagging and share albums of photos and videos.

Furthermore, the universal app also brings functionality that was previously available exclusively in the browser, such as restoring files from Recycle Bin, dragging and dropping files to the app for quick upload, access to recent documents, and more.

More features on their way

Microsoft promises to add even more features in the coming updates, as it continues work on the app for both desktops and mobile.

“This update delivers OneDrive experiences to even more devices, and we will bring other capabilities to this platform over time. As we announced last week, this app will also provide an easy and lightweight way to access your company’s SharePoint libraries, and we look forward to sharing additional details on what else we’re working on very soon,” Microsoft announced.

Since it’s a universal app, you can install the new OneDrive client on both PCs and smartphones, and the first version should come in even handier since you can easily upload and download files by simply dragging and dropping them to and from the app.

Users who want to request new features and send feedback to the company are recommended to do it on the OneDrive UserVoice channel, where Microsoft’s engineers are interacting with members to discuss more future improvements that can be made to the app.
