A subscription is obviously required for all apps

Microsoft has just announced that its Office 365 suite is available in the Mac App Store, allowing macOS Mojave users to easily download and update its productivity apps.

A subscription for Office 365 is obviously required, but users who install Microsoft’s products from the Mac App Store can then receive updates automatically without them having to rely on the software giant’s own systems. Previously, Office 365 was available from Microsoft’s website.

Microsoft provides Mac users with a 30-day trial for Office 365, after which they need to purchase one of the available subscriptions. The cheapest is Office 365 Personal, which costs $69.99 a year or $6.99 per month.

Launch originally planned for 2018

Just as expected, Apple is pleased with the news that its rival is bringing one of its key products to the Mac App Store, and it says in a statement that the two companies worked together to make this happen.

“We are excited to welcome Microsoft Office 365 to the all new Mac App Store in macOS Mojave,” said Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.

“Apple and Microsoft have worked together to bring great Office productivity to Mac users from the very beginning. Now, with Office 365 on the Mac App Store, it's easier than ever to get the latest and best version of Office 365 for Mac, iPad and iPhone.”

Office 365 comes with special macOS Mojave goodies, including support for the dark mode and Continuity Camera. It also supports the MacBook Pro Touch Bar to make working with documents a bit easier.

Microsoft originally planned to bring its Office productivity suite to the Mac App Store in late 2018. No details were provided regarding the short delay, but customers can now head over to the Store and install the suite.
