Microsoft has released this month’s firmware updates for the Surface Pro 4 and the Surface Book, both of which are getting new driver versions with performance and stability improvements.

The driver packs are released in MSI and ZIP formats, and users should go for the first version because it offers a straightforward installation method with only a few prompts displayed during the process.

First of all, let’s see what’s new in the Surface Book update. According to Microsoft, the so-called “ultimate laptop” is getting the recently-released NVIDIA GeForce GTX 965M driver up to version 21.21.13.7667 which improves system stability, but we’re hearing from some of our readers that gaming performance is substantially improved with this release.

Furthermore, it appears that some rendering glitches experienced during gaming are no longer there, so those who are using the Surface Book for playing games should hurry up to deploy this new firmware update.

Then, there are updates for the Surface UEFI, NVM Express Controller, the Integration Service Device, and the USB Hub Firmware Update, all of which are getting improved stability, performance, and bug fixes.

Surface Pro 4 update

Some of the improvements that were shipped to the Surface Book are also available for the Surface Pro 4 and that’s pretty normal given that the two devices use similar components.

For example, the Surface Pro 4 is getting updates for the Surface UEFI, the display, the NVM Express Controller, and the Intel Management Engine Interface, but you can check out the full changelog in the box below to see all the new drivers and their versions.

Just like it happens with every Surface firmware update, make sure that the device is charged or at least plugged in, and in case you’re afraid that anything could happen, backups are your safest bet. If the firmware update appears to freeze before the process comes to an end, don’t interrupt it and wait a little bit longer because otherwise you could brick the device.
