Microsoft confirmed several months ago that it would bring its personal digital assistant Cortana to Android and iOS platforms.

The Redmond-based company announced at that time that a beta version would initially arrive on Android in summer, while iOS users would get it by the end of the year.

Last month, a beta build of Cortana leaked ahead of official release. Even if it wasn't the final version, at least we got the chance to see how the personal digital assistant works on Android and what needs to be fixed.

Today, Microsoft announced that the beta of Cortana app is available to all Android phone users. Those who are using Windows 10, already know the benefits of Cortana.

According to Microsoft, Cortana for Android is the companion to Windows 10 PC since it extends the application's functionality across any device that a user carries, everywhere they go.

Furthermore, Microsoft stated that since the closed beta of Cortana has been released to a limited number of users, it has made quite a few improvements to the experience and added new features such as the option to set Cortana as the destination for the home button press.

It's only available in the US for the moment

This means that users will now be able to access Cortana with a press of a button. Also, Microsoft stated that users would be able to notice a few differences between what the personal digital assistant can do right now in Windows and in the app on Android.

As expected, Cortana beta for Android is only available in the United States, but Microsoft confirmed plans to roll it out to other markets.

You can now download Cortana for Android for free via Google Play Store. The application should be fully compatible with all devices powered by Android 4.0 and up.
