Not too many, Android and iOS users claim

Microsoft has just launched a new application for Android devices, but this time, it's not an exclusive tool that could make Windows Phone and Windows 10 Mobile users angry.

The company has decided to go for a tool that's supposed to ease the transition from Android to Windows Phone, most likely because they expect more people to give a shot to their platform now that Windows 10 Mobile is just around the corner.

Called AppComparison and spotted by WMPU, the application checks an Android device to determine the installed apps and then looks in the Windows Phone store for the exact same names. This way, Microsoft says, users moving from Android to Windows Phone know what to expect and can easily find out if their favorite apps are already in its store.

“Are you considering changing your Android device to Windows Phone? AppComparison identifies your favourite Android apps and matches them with apps available from the Microsoft Store. The application also introduces you to some of the most popular Windows Phone applications,” the official description of the app that's posted in the Google Play Store reads.

The lack of apps

It's not a secret that the lack of apps was one of the biggest problems of Windows Phone, but Microsoft tried to address it with the release of Windows 10 Mobile, kicking off work on new projects that could actually make it easier to port Android and iOS apps to its platform.

Both projects have been delayed though, but at the same time, Microsoft's discussing with software companies to convince them to bring their apps on Windows 10 Mobile. Facebook, for instance, has already announced that it's bringing its own client on Windows 10 and Windows 10 Mobile, but there's one big name that's still missing from the list: Google.

The search company hasn't made any announcement regarding its plans for Windows 10 and the chances are that it will never will. Not in the near future, at least.
