Sorry, Windows Phone fans, you’re not getting it

Microsoft Garage has released another new application, this time exclusive to Android, so you can’t install it on Windows phones or iPhones for the time being - Apple’s users, however, are expected to get it very soon, but Microsoft’s not so much.

Called Trip Tracker, the application is supposed to automatically track your trips and create entries for each of them with information such as start and end time, duration, and path.

Could be released on iOS soon

Microsoft guarantees that it’s super battery efficient and, even though it uses location tracking, it shouldn’t drain your phone battery, despite running in the background. The app can automatically detect a number of activities, including drives, walks, runs, and bike rides.

“Trip Tracker, a Microsoft Garage project, is a free app that automatically records your drives, runs, walks, and bike rides. The app works in the background, and will auto detect when your activity has started. Download Trip Tracker and make to easier to remember the trips you’ve taken,” Microsoft explains in the description published in the Google Play store.

Trip Tracker was developed with Microsoft’s Location and Observation Platform, often called LOOP, which has been specifically optimized for low battery and resource usage, so no matter the device, power consumption should stay to the minimum level.

LOOP is also available on iOS, and this is the first sign that Trip Tracker is very likely to be released on iPhones as well in the coming weeks.

Microsoft Garage is Redmond’s unit that develops experimental apps, with the focus not necessarily on Windows, but on rival platforms as well. The team has already released plenty of apps on Android and iOS, so there’s no reason to be angry that Trip Tracker isn’t offered to Windows users, although seeing Microsoft continuing this trend is frustrating, to say the least, for those in the community.
