New Surface Book version silently released in the store

Microsoft has unveiled a new version of the Surface Book laptop that comes with high-end specs, but also with a price that placed it at the top of the series.

The new Surface Book, which was released in the Store without an official announcement, is powered by an Intel i7 Skylake processor and comes with 16GB RAM and 1TB storage. Surprisingly, however, there’s no dedicated GPU, despite the high price of $2,999.

For some reason, though, the new Surface Book version can’t be purchased just yet, even if it’s listed in the Store, with Microsoft flagging it as not available for the time being. Most likely this version is scheduled to go on sale in the near future and Microsoft might be preparing an announcement.

New Surface Book laptop coming?

While this device could make some people raise their eyebrows given the high price and the lack of discrete GPU, Microsoft is also believed to be working on a completely new-generation Surface Book as well that would come with a new design and upgraded specs.

Not much is known at this point, but Microsoft could take the wraps off the Surface Book 2 as soon as this spring, possibly during a press conference when the company also introduces the new Windows 10 Creators Update.

One of the changes that could make their way to the Surface Book 2 concerns the hinge, which has been rather criticized on the first generation for letting dust slip in between the screen and the keyboard. Microsoft was said to be working on a new hinge design that would address this issue, along with other small refinements to make the laptop lighter.

The Surface Book 2 could obviously come with 4K support and Intel’s latest-generation processors, but also with an improved Surface Pen and even support for the Surface Dial accessory that was introduced by Microsoft last October with the Surface Studio.
