New build, few changes, as rumors point to imminent death

It’s already a well-known fact that Windows 10 Mobile is collapsing, and the most recent speculation indicates that the platform is close to reaching its end, with Microsoft to complete the wind-down by the end of the current quarter.

While details in this regard are very scarce, Microsoft itself is also dropping hints that investing in Windows phones no longer makes sense, and a preview build released today seems to align with this approach.

Windows 10 Mobile build 15208, which is available for the Fast ring exclusively, is only a very small update that brings no new features, while work on the PC sibling evolves at a much faster pace.

No new features, small improvements

In the release notes of today’s build, Microsoft explains that it comes with only two improvements, one of which repairs issues causing the Connect UX page and the Bluetooth Settings page not to load. The other one addresses an issue “resulting in an unexpected extra ~20 sec being added to the phone shutdown process due to a deadlock if you tried to shut down soon after switching from one network to another.”

In terms of known issues, Microsoft says that some devices could experience random shutdowns, while others could be hit by bugs crashing the WeChat app on launch.

Additionally, the company points out that “a small percentage of devices may experience text message backup loss related to backup and recovery of the messaging database.”

Just like before, you can get the new build via the Phone update page, and make sure that you charge your device or plug it in until the process is complete.

As for the final version of the Redstone 3 update for mobile, very little is known in this regard, as some reports claim that phones won’t be getting it, but instead will be provided with a feature2 update bringing only fixes and improvements and no major new features.
