Microsoft is expected to shut down the Lumia phone brand sometime in the coming months, and although the company has remained completely tight-lipped on such a strategy, some of the recent decisions seem to point that this is indeed the plan.

One such decision was announced today when Microsoft revealed that the official Instagram account called ShotOnMyLumia would be integrated into the main MicrosoftLumia account.

ShotOnMyLumia was an account highlighting photos taken with Lumia phones by people from all over the world, and for some reason, Microsoft no longer sees a reason to keep it alive. There were more than 24,000 followers for this account, so all would have to move to the Microsoft Lumia account - there is a big chance that the majority of users were following both accounts already.

Microsoft remaining tight-lipped on Lumia plans

As far as the official reason for this decision is concerned, Microsoft hasn’t said too much about it, providing absolutely no hint regarding the future of the Lumia brand.

“Our Instagram account will soon be @MicrosoftLumia. Don't worry, you don't need to do anything and you'll still get beautiful images shot on a #Lumia straight to your feed. This is all to make it easier for you to be part of our international, larger, Microsoft family,” the message posted recently reads.

Microsoft fans who were following the account speculated that this could push the company one step closer to the demise of the Lumia brand, which according to people close to the matter could be announced soon. Microsoft has already sold out Lumia phones in the biggest markets, so an announcement in this regard could be imminent.

In terms of mobile future for the Redmond-based tech giant, Microsoft is believed to be working on one high-end device called Surface Phone, which could see daylight in the fall of 2017 running the full version of Windows 10. Microsoft has already confirmed that it wants to build “the ultimate mobile device,” but no other hints regarding the Surface Phone were provided.
