14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft has just rolled out a new update for the Bing app for iOS that brings not only improvements and bug fixes but also a bunch of new features that could provide a significantly better experience on iPhones.
Bing for iOS version 6.6 allows users to swipe left or right on the homepage to enter camera and voice mode quickly, so if you’ve ever wanted an easy way to access these features, Bing now has it. Additionally, when searching for videos, previews now start playing automatically, but in case you might find this annoying, it all happens without sound. So yes, video preview is shown, but sound is off all the time.
Price comparison and music improvements
There is a new price comparison feature that works with the barcode scanner rolled out in the previous versions. Microsoft explains how this new capability works:
“Now you can do the same while browsing shopping sites: tap the shopping icon in top left of the product page to find the best prices (available on the following sites: Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Best Buy, CVS, eBay, Fry's Electronics, Half.com, Home Depot, Jet.com, Kohl's, Lowe's, Macy's, Rakuten, Rite Aid, Staples, Target, Toys ‘R’ Us, and Walmart.)”
And because iPhone users love music (or so claims Apple), the Bing update brings a feature to search for a song and play the video while reading lyrics. There’s also a new Music shortcut on the homepage, so you can see trending videos a lot faster.
Last but not least, Microsoft has also implemented smaller tweaks, including a more intuitive interface for multiple tabs, plus a new tool to write or doodle directly on a page before you share it with a contact.
The app is obviously free in the store and works on iOS 9 or later. It can be installed on iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch running the latest versions of iOS (including the developer preview of iOS 10).
