This is the reason the firm is killing the service anyway

Microsoft announced earlier this week that it’s killing off the So.cl social network, and although the company hasn’t provided any information as to why it made this decision, here’s something that perfectly proves the service had no future.

The announcement that So.cl is going dark was posted on the official Microsoft Fuse Labs website and obviously made the headlines across the world quite fast, but despite so many people finding out about it, only one person actually took the time to express his feelings in the comment section of the blog.

The “fans”

At this point, Microsoft’s blog post has a total of 6 comments, out of which just one comes from a user who is actually sad to see this service being retired.

“Oh I hate to this this...this was such a fun social network...and very creative...” writes Brian Wolters, whose profile page indicates he is an IT Systems Administrator at Pinnacle Structures.

The other 5 comments say completely different things. Nicolas Ducios says he wanted to use So.cl but it lacked too many features, Moe Karam asks how he can download animations from the service before the shutdown, Sean Kollewood posted something in German, Search Compare Buy wants to see the social network open sourced, and Brian Wolters finally turns from being sad to frustrated because he wants to save his GIFs before losing them completely.

So.cl is a social network that many people didn’t even know existed, and this is without a doubt one of the reasons Microsoft is retiring it. The company’s announcement, however, says little about its decision, but instead praises So.cl for the concept that brought it to life. So it’s probably users’ fault that So.cl failed (end of sarcasm note).

“Socl has been a wonderful outlet for creative expression, as well as a place to enjoy a supportive community of like-minded people, sharing and learning together. In supporting you, Socl’s unique community of creators, we have learned invaluable lessons in what it takes to establish and maintain community as well as introduce novel new ways to make, share and collect digital stuff we love,” Microsoft’s announcement reads.

For what it’s worth, if you want to give So.cl a try, you still have some 5 days to do it, as the service completely shuts down on March 15.
