The Windows 10 Fall Creators Update is projected to launch in September, and it looks like it has already reached an advanced development stage, with Microsoft preparing to start the final Bug Bash as soon as this week.

The Bug Bash is a special program that Microsoft is running with help from users participating in the Windows Insider program whose main purpose is to discover bugs in the operating system and to have them fixed before the production ring gets a new major release.

Microsoft explained that the final Bug Bash for the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update would start this week and run for one week at full speed.

“We’re really excited to do our 2nd (and final) Bug Bash for the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update! The Bug Bash will start at 12am (Pacific Time) on Friday July 14th and will run a full week ending at 11:59 pm (Pacific Time) on Sunday July 23rd. As usual, we will be publishing new quests and will be doing some Mixer webcasts. So be sure to open Feedback Hub and complete as many quests as you can!” Dona Sarkar, head of the Windows Insider program, said.

Increased focus on bug fixing

Basically, once the Bug Bash is complete, Microsoft would focus mostly on fixing bugs that are discovered and reported by insiders as part of the program, so the remaining weeks until the launch of the Fall Creators Updates would be mostly focused on addressing issues, and less on new features.

The most recent builds released to insiders were full of new features anyway, and with this announcement, it looks like Microsoft is very close to entering the final stage of the development process for the new Windows 10 Fall Creators Update.

The timing seems to be a bit ahead of what we were used to, as we’re still nearly 2 months away from the moment the Fall Creators Update is expected to be finalized, but it appears that Microsoft has already shipped the majority of new features is planned for this new release.

Some other refinements, however, including more improvements that are part of the Fluent Design System, are still expected before the launch of the Fall Creators Update, so it’ll be interesting to see how the company handles these two months left until the new OS version gets the go-ahead.
