14 DAY TRIAL // People with knowledge of the matter indicated that Microsoft was planning to take the wraps off the Surface Pro 5 and the Surface Book 2 in the spring of 2017, the same date when the company is expected to introduce the second wave of the Redstone update (officially called Anniversary Update).
As a result, everyone expected Microsoft’s hardware efforts to receive an overhaul next year, but it turns out that some new devices could actually be introduced as soon as the fall of 2016.
In a statement to The Verge, Windows boss Terry Myerson has explained that the fall is the right time “to celebrate new devices,” hinting that not only partners are expected to unveil new products, but also Microsoft itself.
“Increasingly as we go out into the fall, it's a natural time for us to focus on new devices from our partners and from Microsoft. The Xbox One S will be shipping, but also many new devices will be available from HP, Dell, Lenovo, Acer, Asus, Microsoft, and others. The fall time frame is really just a great time frame to celebrate new devices,” he says.
Microsoft Band 3 and Surface AIO
Myerson hasn’t dropped any hints as to what devices we could receive in the fall, but it’s believed that the third-generation Microsoft Band could see daylight this year, as the software giant does not want to wait until the spring of 2017 to take the wraps off its new wearable.
At the same time, a report that came out earlier today has revealed that Microsoft is planning to launch a Surface all-in-one PC that could also debut in the fall of this year. The report is yet to be confirmed, so we can’t tell for sure if it’s true or not, but it would make sense for Microsoft to look to expand the Surface lineup in this direction.
For the moment, the Band 3 is all but confirmed to arrive this year, and so is the Xbox One S, but we’re still waiting for more information on the other devices that could go live in the fall.
