Users can finally launch it with a double-click

The most recent Windows 10 Redstone 3 build finally fixes the most annoying bug in Windows Defender, which made it impossible for users to launch the antivirus from the System Tray with a double click.

This bug has been there for weeks and Microsoft listed it as a known issue, as lots of Windows insiders complained that launching the Windows Defender Security Center (or the Windows Defender) from the system tray icon with a double-click didn’t work correctly.

Instead, Microsoft recommended users to right-click the Windows Defender tray icon and hit the open option, and this is exactly what most people did, including us here at Softpedia. Truth be told, this isn’t such a major issue, but if you’re working with Windows Defender several times a day, it’s becoming a more frustrating bug that shouldn’t take too long to fix.

As an alternative, users can also launch Windows Defender from the Start menu, though using the tray icon is clearly the more convenient way to go.

Launching Windows Defender now working correctly

And with the release of Windows 10 build 16188, Microsoft finally delivers a fix for this bug and we can confirm that the issue is gone and Windows Defender launches correctly after installing the update.

Windows Defender has evolved from an antivirus application to the so-called Windows Defender Security Center with the release of the Windows 10 Creators Update.

As a result, it groups not only features to perform a scan on your files and remove malware, but pretty much everything security, so you can, for example, adjust parental controls, configure the firewall and the network, and check out device performance and health from one central hub.

Keep in mind that this fix is only available for members of the Windows Insider program in the Fast ring, but it’s not clear just yet if the same problem is experienced on stable systems running the Creators Update as well.
