Windows 10 build 10158 has officially been rolled out today with plenty of improvements, including some new tweaks that now make it possible to install it on Surface 3 and Surface Pro 3.

Microsoft has announced earlier today that Windows 10 build 10158 can be installed on Surface 3, as it includes fixes for the issue that was preventing the device from upgrading successfully in prior builds.

Both the Surface 3 and the Pro 3 are running Windows 8.1 Pro and will be fully upgradeable to Windows 10 when the new operating system launches on July 29, so getting the preview build right is quite critical to Microsoft to make sure that all its tablet users can install it.

Windows 10 brings a lot of improvements for tablets, including a Continuum mode that allows users to switch from the desktop to the Modern UI automatically when disconnecting the keyboard on 2-in-1 devices, thus making sure that their work is not interrupted by any means.

Build 10158 tablet improvements

Windows 10 build 10158 brings a number of enhancements specifically created for tablets, so thus both the Surface 3 and the Pro 3 will benefit from a better experience in touch as well as traditional desktop mode.

Microsoft details some of the improvements it made in this build:

“For Continuum, you’ll see a lot of bug fixes as well as improved Tablet mode animations, improved support for Windows 8/8.1 apps and classic (Win32) apps in Tablet mode. And when using the Start Menu, you can swipe up on the left side to open All apps. This also works in Tablet mode, when you have opened up the left side of Start behind the hamburger menu.”

There’s no doubt that Continuum is one of the best additions to Windows 10’s feature lineup, and just as Microsoft’s demoed at recent press events, it can ensure seamless productivity no matter the input. Tablets seem to be a key part of Microsoft’s long-term strategy, so making Windows 10 better fit this category of devices is definitely a priority.
