Redmond already internally testing this build

Microsoft rolled out Windows 10 Mobile build 10586.122 earlier this week, and rumor has it that the company is already preparing a new cumulative update that could be shipped to insiders as soon as next week.

The first to report on the existence of Windows 10 Mobile build 10586.164 was Twitter user @tfwboredom, who also posted a screenshot of this version installing on a device and revealing that it could launch sometime next week.

And now a report published by WindowsMania not only points to the same release date but also offers a screenshot as living proof that Microsoft is already testing this build internally.

“Cumulative update” .164

The upcoming build will be offered as a cumulative update and once again come with bug fixes and performance improvements, which means that new features are very unlikely to be part of this release.

What’s more important, however, is that .164 is part of Microsoft’s refinements plans for Windows 10 Mobile, so it gets us one step closer to the moment when the company will push out the upgrade version for Windows Phone devices. There’s no indication that this build could be the last one before the arrival of Windows 10 Mobile, but everyone’s hoping it will be.

What will be interesting to see is who will be getting this update, as .122 was released only for insiders enrolled in the slow and release preview rings.

“Windows Insiders with devices on the Fast ring which are not yet receiving updates from the Development Branch would need to temporarily switch to the Slow or Release Preview rings if they want to receive this build,” Gabe Aul, head of the Windows Insider program, said when rolling out .122.

Certainly, nothing should be taken for granted right now, as everything could change overnight, given the fact that we’re still talking about preview builds, so we’ll have to wait and see if .164 is the next build in queue.
