“Edge performance is still horrid,” feedback reads

Microsoft is betting big on its Edge browser in the fight against rivals Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox and the firm is continuously investing in the app to make sure that more users give it a try.

Living proof is the recently-released support for extensions, as Microsoft finally implemented it in consumer versions of Windows 10 with the release of the Anniversary Update.

And although Edge browser has evolved a lot lately, this still isn’t enough to compete against Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, and the ones saying this are Windows 10 users who tried out the browser and decided to submit feedback to Microsoft.

Still crashing every once in a while

A thread in the Microsoft Feedback app discussing Edge performance contains complaints from users who were disappointed with how the browser was working despite the numerous improvements implemented by Microsoft lately.

“Edge performance is still horrid. The browser constantly stops responding and I have to wait a minute or two before it becomes usable again. This happens on many different sites,” the user who first submitted the feedback wrote.

“I gave up using edge as my default, it's stupidly lacking in basic functionality, it annoyingly keeps hanging every now and then as you stated, and it's years behind the competition to be worth time. Basic functionality it still lacks till today: can't restore previous session after exiting the browser and attempting to copy text from the URL bar 'causes it to freeze,” another one added.

And all these complaints lead to poor market share, with Edge currently being used on approximately 5 percent of computers worldwide, according to various market research firms.

Of course, Edge adoption is also substantially impacted by its exclusive availability on Windows 10 and Microsoft isn’t willing to change that, as the company has no plan to launch the browser on any other operating system, be it an older version of Windows, Linux, or MacOS.
