No need to change the user agent anymore to get it to work

Microsoft Edge isn’t quite the top browser across the world on the desktop, but plenty of Windows 10 adopters do use it, especially because it’s very fast most of the time.

But it’s no surprise that some web services are yet to add support for Edge, so when it comes to using them, turning to a different browser was the only chance if you didn’t want to tweak the user agent in Microsoft’s new application.

Starting today, WhatsApp Web, the web-based service that allows you to chat with your contacts on WhatsApp without using the phone, but only a PC and a keyboard, supports Microsoft Edge too, which shows that support for the new browser is improving around the world.

Previously, when connecting to WhatsApp Web, users were asked to switch to a supported browser, including Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, and unless they changed the user agent string to make Edge be identified as one of these apps, it was quite impossible to use the service.

Not working? Clear cache

But as revealed by some eagle-eyed reddit users, WhatsApp quietly added support for the new browser a few days ago, so you no longer have to use Chrome or Firefox to chat with your friends.

In case the browser is still listed as unsupported when loading the official WhatsApp Web page, you need to clear the Edge cache. To do this, go to Settings > Clear browsing data > Choose what to clear > Cached data and files > Clear. Everything should be working fine after that.

Microsoft Edge is Redmond’s new browser for Windows 10, and it is being offered as a universal app, so it comes with the same look and features on both PCs and smartphones. It, however, lacks several important features, including support for extensions, which should arrive with the Redstone update in the summer.
