Today Redmond has rolled out its Patch Tuesday updates

Today Microsoft Edge browser has received a cumulative security update as part of Redmond's own Patch Tuesday cycle, so in case you're already on Windows 10, make sure you fire up Windows Update and get all available downloads as soon as possible.

Edge is the new browser available in Windows 10 as the default option, thus replacing Internet Explorer and becoming the one choice on PCs, laptops, and tablets running the new operating system. Edge will also be released for smartphones later this year with Windows 10 Mobile, with Microsoft planning to offer the same feature set and UI for seamless transition from one device to another.

And since Edge is part of Windows 10, the browser is included in the Windows as a Service approach, which should bring us updates at a much faster pace than before. In other words, updates like this one are expected to be provided more often and not just on Patch Tuesday.

What's in this update?

According to information posted by Microsoft in the official KB page of this update, the release patches a flaw that exposes Edge browser once the user loads a compromised website.

“This security update resolves several reported vulnerabilities in Microsoft Edge. The most severe of these vulnerabilities could allow remote code execution if a user views a specially crafted webpage by using Microsoft Edge,” the company explains.

If you're on Windows 10 and Windows Update is turned on, you have nothing to do than download the latest updates released by Microsoft.

The Edge patch is included in the Windows 10 cumulative update rolled out on August 11, so if you installed that one, you should already be on the safe side. Otherwise, make sure you deploy it as soon as possible, and as a general rule, try to stay away from suspicious websites that are sent to you by unknown sources or individuals.
