A couple of improvements available for Edge too

Windows 10 build 10586, which is also believed to be the Threshold 2 update coming next week for RTM users across the world, brings a couple of improvements to Edge browser too.

Edge is Microsoft’s new browser for Windows 10 and replaces Internet Explorer, being offered not only on PCs but also on tablets and smartphones with similar looks, feel, and feature lineup.

So Threshold 2, which is the first major update that Windows 10 is getting since launch, comes with enhancements for Edge too, including tab previews and a few more options here and there.

Build 10586, likely the final version of Threshold 2, includes some last-minute fixes for Edge as well, as Microsoft has discovered that some of the features it introduced do not work as expected. Tab previews, for example, were said to be quite buggy on a number of machines and didn’t show up at all.

This new release fixes an issue where tab previews were not working if the page was not scrolled to the top, Microsoft explains while adding that it also addresses a problem where web note clippings appeared as black.

Extensions not yet ready

With Threshold 2 just around the corner, many expected to get many more breaking changes in Edge, but unfortunately, this doesn’t seem to be the case.

Extension support, which is undoubtedly the number one change coming in Windows 10, won’t be ready for Threshold 2, with pundits now claiming that Microsoft is looking at summer 2016 as the possible release date. Extensions will thus arrive together with Redstone, the next big update for the operating system, as the company apparently needs more time to introduce this feature.

The lack of such a feature is clearly the biggest drawback for Edge, and users are very eager to get it as soon as possible. In the meantime, however, many just prefer to stick to the existing alternatives, which already work flawlessly on Windows 10.
