14 DAY TRIAL // There's some talk online that Windows 10 Mobile might require at least 5GB of storage space on a handset, and this has made many believe that the upcoming operating system won't actually work on a number of low-end Lumias, such as the 530.
It turns out, however, that this isn't the case, as Microsoft has already developed a way to make it possible to offer Windows 10 Mobile to all devices, but only if a microSD card is available.
NPU points to Microsoft documentation that confirms that a microSD card is required on devices with 4GB of RAM in order to install Windows 10 Mobile, and this is pretty much the only option, given the fact that the operating system itself and the pre-installed apps eat up more space than the device comes with in the first place.
“To ensure successful upgrade, it is recommended that a device with 4 GB of nonremovable flash storage includes an SD card slot,” Microsoft says in its docs.
Windows 10 Mobile on all Windows Phone devices
Microsoft planned from the very beginning to bring Windows 10 Mobile on all Windows Phone devices, so it's not a surprise to see the company developing new ways to make the operating system available even on the low-end phone lineup.
Devices with only 512 MB of RAM will also get the upgrade to Windows 10 Mobile, but just as Microsoft confirmed earlier this year, some features will not be there because of the obvious hardware limitations. But in the end, everyone gets Windows 10 Mobile and they get it for free.
The debut of the new OS is expected to take place in October, as Microsoft is now working on fixing bugs and improving the overall performance of the operating system ahead of the big launch. More preview builds are expected to be released in the coming weeks, as the Windows team advances towards the final version of the OS.
