Microsoft will slowly update the entire Lumia family

Yesterday, Microsoft finally made Windows 10 for desktop and laptops available, but we still have a few months to wait until Windows 10 Mobile makes its way into the wild. According to the latest indications, this might happen as late as November.

Anyway, while Microsoft might be planning to update most of its Lumia devices to Windows 10, not all phones from this family will get it upon launch.

Microsoft was kind enough to share with us the list of phones that will get Windows 10 Mobile from the get-go. Interestingly enough, some of these models aren’t even the most recent out there.

So in the US, the Lumia 640, Lumia 640 XL and Lumia 430 dual-SIM will receive a free upgrade to Windows 10 as soon as it becomes available.

In the UK, the following Lumia smartphones are eligible to get a free upgrade to the latest version of the operating system: Lumia 435, Lumia 535, Lumia 640, Lumia 640 XL, Lumia 735, Lumia 830 and Lumia 930.

As for the rest of the world, we can expect the Lumia 430, Lumia 435, Lumia 523, Lumia 535, Lumia 540, Lumia 640, Lumia 640 XL, Lumia 735, Lumia 830 and Lumia 930 to receive an upgrade to Windows 10 Mobile.

More Lumias will get the update later on

As you can see, there are a few notable absentees from the list, including the Lumia 530, 520, 630 and 635, which is really weird since these phones are actually quite popular among the Windows Phone loving population.

What’s more, the Lumia 1520, Lumia Icon and Lumia 730 are also not present, although they boast the same specs as the 930 and 735 models.

Still, that doesn’t mean Microsoft won’t update the list and add other Lumia devices as time passes. With some models, the update process is also tied up to respective carriers, but Lumia users should take into consideration that they can run Windows 10 via the Windows Insider app.

Therefore, they don’t necessarily have to wait for the carrier to push the update, as they can get it themselves.
