My People won’t be available in Windows 10 Redstone 2

My People is one of the features that Microsoft showcased at an event in October, promising to include it in the Windows 10 Creators Update due in April, but now it turns out that users would only get it with the next OS update coming in the fall.

Microsoft’s Dona Sarkar, head of the Windows Insider program, revealed today that the firm decided to hold back My People until the next OS update, as the team still needs to refine it before making it available for users.

My People is not yet available in Windows 10 insider builds, so the next target is now the Redstone 3 update that’s projected to launch in the fall of this year.

“As we shared at our event in October, we’re excited to bring your people to the front and center of your computing experience in Windows with the My People experience.  Our goal with Windows is to deliver experiences you’ll love and we’ve made the decision to hold this feature for the next major update to Windows,” Dona said today.

What’s My People?

Specifically, My People was a feature that was supposed to bring your favorite contacts right on the Windows 10 taskbar, allowing users to easily interact with them.

For example, should someone want to share a photo with a contact, the only thing they have to do would be to drag the picture file to the contact’s icon in the taskbar and the whole process would take place all automatically.

It goes without saying that contact icons could also be used for quickly sending messages, such as emails or via Skype.

Work on the Redstone 3 update has already started internally, and Microsoft is expected to release the first preview builds shortly after the Creators Update sees daylight, but it remains to be seen when My People will actually make it to insiders.

For the moment, just remove this feature from the Windows 10 Creators Update lineup, and look for it in the Redstone 3 update coming later this year.
