No cumulative updates right now, but they should land soon

Microsoft was projected to launch new security updates today as part of its monthly Patch Tuesday cycle, but the company has delayed the release because of what it described as a last-minute bug.

The software giant has provided no information as to what caused the delay of this month’s security fixes, and it explained in a statement that the firm needs more time to address the issue before pushing the go-ahead button once again.

“Our top priority is to provide the best possible experience for customers in maintaining and protecting their systems. This month, we discovered a last minute issue that could impact some customers and was not resolved in time for our planned updates today,” the firm explains in a statement released a few minutes ago.

“After considering all options, we made the decision to delay this month’s updates. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this change to the existing plan.”

No new cumulative updates for Windows 10 (yet)

This means that Windows 10 systems aren’t getting any new cumulative updates just yet even though, as we reported yesterday, Microsoft’s original plan was to indeed ship patches for Windows 10 today as part of its monthly rollout.

The company hasn’t said anything about its next target date for security patches, but sources told us that the firm is now aiming for next Tuesday, but this information cannot be verified at the moment. Most likely, a second announcement would follow soon when Microsoft manages to address the bug.

Starting with February, Microsoft planned to adopt a new updating system that would give up on security bulletins for information posted in the Security Updates Guide, so there’s a chance that this change might have been caused by the bug that the company talked about.

It remains to be seen how fast the software giant manages to repair this bug, and for the moment, users are recommended to manually download and install Adobe’s Flash Player patch that was released earlier today and which was supposed to be shipped via Windows Update too.
