Microsoft Band marked Redmond's debut in the wearables market, and after the success of the first generation, the company is very keen to expand the lineup with a revised model.

The second-generation Microsoft Band is projected to launch later this year and reports indicated that it might actually be unveiled in October, alongside new Windows phones and the eagerly-anticipated Surface Pro 4.

Living proof that the unveiling of the new Band is near is that Microsoft is rolling out more and more price cuts for the device, probably in an attempt to clear out inventories ahead of the launch of this second model.

This time, the Microsoft store is selling the Band for the $149.99, down from the standard price of $199.99, so if you want to purchase the device, this is pretty much the best moment.

The second-generation Band

As we mentioned in our Microsoft Band review, Redmond's first smart wristband is quite an advanced device that packs really innovative technology, such as a plethora of sensors to monitor heart rate, fitness, and pretty much every move you make, but there's still room for improvement.

For example, the design of the display could make the Band quite unconformable at some moments during the day, while battery life is not that good when keeping Bluetooth always on and performing synchronization daily.

These are actually the areas where Microsoft is expected to focus more for the second generation, so expect the Band 2 to come with a redesigned screen that would make it more comfortable, but also with better battery life.

Rumor has it that the company is already testing the Band 2 across Europe, the more markets could get it at launch, but it remains to be seen if this is true or not, as Microsoft is expected to at least announce the debut event for the device in the coming months.
