Major update for Pix app brings Prisma-like styles

Microsoft has just updated the Pix app for iOS, bringing Prisma-like styles that use advanced algorithms to give a more artistic touch to every shot you take.

Exclusively available on iOS, Pix uses AI-powered features, and unlike Prisma, it does not need an Internet connection, with all tools running locally.

Codenamed Pix Styles, the new feature can transform photos into styles that are based on popular works of art or applies various effects that are available in the Edit menu.

"Unlike a filter, which uniformly alters the colors of a photo, applying a Pix Style transfers texture, pattern and tones to the photo in the selected style, transforming it into a distinct creation, Weisberg noted. Pix Styles is launching today with 11 unique artistic styles; more will be added in the coming weeks," Microsoft says.

There's also a second feature coming in this update and it is called Pix Paintings, with the app showing a time-lapse of the photo you just took being painted using the artistic style that you selected. This shows how a specific photo comes to life in a much more natural way.

Using the app is easy. Just launch Pix, take a photo or open one from the gallery and then hit the Edit button, where all the new styles and the Paintings feature are located. Choose one of the styles that you like and then simply save the photo to the gallery. Each photo created with Microsoft Pix comes with a small watermark in the lower right corner.

Microsoft says these features were created in collaboration with the company's Asia research lab and are inspired by famous paintings on display in Amsterdam, Paris, and New York. More such styles would be added soon in the next updates for Pix, Microsoft promises.

Make sure you have a look at the photo gallery below to see the app in action and download it from the App Store to try it out yourselves.
